A Connecticut State Police image

A recently hired City of Quincy School Department employee is said to have been walked out of Atherton Hough School by Massachusetts State Police officers.
It has also been variously noted that state police K-9’s trained to search for electronics devices searched the school on Saturday past but found nothing.
While to this point neither the South Shore broadsheet nor the local tabloid have yet to report on this troubling situation, WBZ Channel 4 and WCVB 5 have reported on it before Quincy Quarry News is now reporting on this disconcerting matter after having duly working dimes about it dropped its way.
WCVB in particular noted that the recently hired school employee was put on leave last week as well as that this person is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation by the Massachusetts State Police,
In response to the troubling events, the Quincy Public Schools Superintendent distributed a lawyerly letter to parents and guardians of Atherton Hough Elementary School students.
Then again, a lawyerly letter was only to be expected as the superintendent is a lawyer by education and experience as opposed to a teacher.
Additionally, so far there has been no statement by Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch in spite of the fact that as mayor he is also the Chair of the School Committee.
In any event, the superintendent’s letter quickly recapped events as well as essentially asserted that students are not now at risk.
No word, however, if any past problems may have been inflicted. After all, such a valid concern given that the state police brought in electronic device search dogs to search the school as a part of its reported to be a still-ongoing criminal investigation over concerns so far unspecified that apparently triggered the investigation.
Nothing like a police dog parade through an elementary school to liven up the Tuesday morning drop-off! I’m sure the kindergarteners just loved the unexpected lesson on ‘Sniffing Out Suspects 101.’ And let’s give a round of applause to the mystery employee who decided to add ‘police K9 search’ to the school’s ever-growing list of extracurriculars. I mean, why focus on reading or recess when you can sprinkle in a little high-stakes drama? Quincy schools never fail to keep us on our toes -— maybe they should offer a ‘Crisis Response’ elective while they’re at it!
Was this newly hired employee another one of Mayor Koch’s relatives or trusted friends? Was it the hacker who perhaps was teaching our elementary school students how to gain access to Quincy’s impenetrable computer system? I sure hope Quincy officials followed past practices by not suspending this new employee’s salary! It is important that the City of Quincy continue to pay the salaries of perpetrators caught in misdeeds. They should not violate past practices by suspending this person without pay. Otherwise, if this person is a Quincy resident, how else will they be able to afford to pay their real estate tax bills?
