Quincy High Students fight over a “disturbing” video containing racist hate speech.
Per word from Quincy Public Schools Superintendent of Schools Kevin W. Mulvey, a video containing racist hate speech gave rise to a fight between two students at Quincy High School Tuesday afternoon.
In what appears to be at least the second such incident since the start of the school year this year in Quincy, one of Quincy’s schools has suffered a troubling race-based incident.
Especially problematic as regards this latest racist incident at a Quincy school is how Quincy Mayor Koch has yet to say anything about it even though as mayor he is also the Chairman of Quincy’s School Committee.
Adding insult to injury is Mayor Koch’s doggedly refusal to establish a Department of Social Justice and Equity as last year the Quincy City Council voted should be established.
Instead, Mayor Koch named a committee last summer to look at “… the city’s practices and make recommendations to the mayor.”
At the same time, he added that he had “… no specific expectations for the commission.”
That and Mayor Koch’s Chief of Staph Pinocchio Walkbacker then contemporaneously added that “(m)eetings of the commission are not subject to the state’s Open Meeting Law” … (but) …,) there will be “amply (sic) opportunity for access and input.”
Tell us another story Pinocchio.
Nothing says transparency like a closed-door meeting.
It is inexcusable that our mayor and school committee chairman has kept quiet — only in Quincy.
So, Koch has “… no specific expectations for the commission.”
Any reasonable, truly concerned person would most certainly have specific goals and expectations for this (or any other) commission.
Why even bother appointing a commission if you don’t expect it to actually do anything?
Asterisk,
In answer to your question: lip service.
