Events leading to this latest reporting of peaceful protesting of things in Quincy follows.

For example, on Wednesday, roughly fifty people rallied peacefully in Quincy Square outside of Quincy’s City Hall to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The turnout was roughly twice as large as what had been expected by event organizers.

At least one report indicated that those rallying for a ceasefire included adherents of the three faiths of the children of Sarah and Abraham as well as that others of good will also peaceably seek a pause of the ongoing horrors in Gaza as well as the increasing problems in the West Bank.

The peaceful protesters lawfully staged their rally where they did given that US House of Representatives member Stephen Lynch (Democrat, Quincy) has one of his district offices in the controversially City of Quincy-owned Munroe building adjacent to Quincy’s City Hall.

The protesters’ goal was to endeavor to encourage Representative Lynch to support a hoped-for call by the US Congress for a ceasefire and then press for a more lasting cessation of hostilities to follow.

As near as can be determined by Quincy Quarry News, however, no comment was offered by anyone on Representative Lynch’s staff, much less by him, as regards this peaceful as well as interfaith call for a ceasefire.

Similarly, the Quarry could find not any statement from any elected official with ties to Quincy nor confirm if any city official may have attended this peaceful call to pause the fighting and then endeavor to work to a more lasting peace.

At best — locally that is, before the rally the Quincy Police Department issued a statement “… that it is committed to protecting the privacy and rights of persons practicing their First Amendment right to assemble.”

The statement added that “… the Quincy Police Department has an excellent record in regard to police-community interactions, and our department will continue to protect our city and those who peacefully protest.”

And for the second rally in Quincy this week, a vigil hosted by the United First Parish Church, better known as the Church of the Presidents, on Friday night to both honor as well as remember those who have often died violently because they were transsexual given that at least many were simply as well as variously born trans.

In this instance, an incoming new Quincy ward councillor has announced his support of the vigil as well as plans to attend it.

No word, however, if a long ongoing gay ward councillor also be participated.

At the same time, one can only reasonably assume that at least one member of the Quincy delegation to the Statehouse as well as at least one other city councillor attended the vigil as doing so is simply the right thing to do even if one can also only reasonably suspect that no one from the mayor’s office  attended.

At least not on an official basis.
