Massachusetts Department of Transportation Finance and Audit committee blasts “incomprehensible” failures at the Registry.

Members of the Department of Transportation’s Finance and Audit Committee blasted the “unconscionable” administrative failures at the Registry of Motor Vehicles’ Quincy-based Merit Ratings Board during a meeting this morning as well as demanding answers.

Board member Tim King called it “incomprehensible,” that “someone, anyone” would consider it acceptable to let tens of thousands of alerts on Massachusetts drivers’ violations in other states accumulate unprocessed in (at least, ed.) fifty-three bins.

“This lack of duty and ultimately, lack of oversight in management, is unconscionable,” King said.  “These are the types of things that infuriate taxpayers and rightly so.”

Quincy Quarry, on the other, is not surprised given the Quincy angle as regards the hot mess that is the Registry’s Quincy-based and run by connected Braintree and Quincy patronage hack hires Merit Rating Board unit.

In any event, Transportation Secretary Stephanie Pollack took notes on questions from members, including a request from Chair Betsy Taylor for an outline of exactly what the RMV is (actually, ed.) supposed to do and a thread of “best practices” when it comes to processing notifications from out of state.

“We understand that we did not keep faith with the public in Massachusetts and that they are genuinely concerned about the safety of our roads and we’re going to win back that faith by taking actions that we need to take to correct the mistakes of the past and to do our job on safety and security going forward,” said Secretary Pollack.

Acting Registrar Jamey Tesler and Pollack left the meeting through a back door after the discussion about RMV finished and so also declining to take questions from the press.

The Finance and Audit committee will meet again in September and plans to review the external audit and which is currently underway by an independent auditing firm..
