Racial hate has no place in Quincy or elsewhere

The December 2022 car whacking by a grumpy old man in the vicinity of the Quincy Center Post Office that resulted in an Asian man taken for a ride on a hood, then dumped into a deep trench, and followed by a trip to the hospital by the whackee given injuries so suffered came to a preliminary end last week given a plea agreement tied to charges of hate crimes.

As props are due, the South Shore Broadsheet did a solid job of recapping the how things went down to conclude this matter — on federal charges anyway as no information was readily available as to how the hate whacker’s violations of state traffic and criminal laws may have been adjudicated.

In any event, pending sentencing of the hate whacker on June 26 by Federal District Court Judge Denise J. Casper, following are terms already imposed on the whacker as a part of the federal hate crimes plea agreement:

  • Participation in educational classes or community service related to the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.
  • Anger management classes.
  • Substance abuse evaluation and treatment.
  • Prohibition against possession of firearms or dangerous weapons.
  • A stay-away-no-contact order from the victim and his family.
  • Restitution to be determined at a later date.

In short, Quincy should be no place for hate.
