Winter Storm Lorraine was expected to slam Eastern Massachusetts with a hard-hitting and snowy Nor’easter, especially so in recent days through at least Saturday.

As things played out, however, the European weather forecast model was seeing signs of Lorraine looking to be heading south late Sunday and thus so too went south this model’s projections of snowfall from it.

In turn, other forecast models’ updates largely concurred by midday Monday.

Even so, while snow total forecasts have been revised downwards to substantially so, the latest forecasts are now projecting that Quincy will likely end up receiving more snow than many of the coastal cities in the northern portion of the South Shore even if but several inches or perhaps a bit more looks to be about it.

Still ultimately reduced storm exceptions notwithstanding, Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch declared a snow emergency yesterday as well as that local public schools in Quincy will be closed for a snow day today even as storm snowfall forecasts were steadily moderating.

Further worrisome, the snow is now expected to eventually fall in Quincy is currently forecast to be wet and heavy with freezing cold weather to follow to freeze it solid where not plowed and/or salted as well as that perhaps a quick couple inches of snow may fall on Thursday care of a quick hitting Alberta Clipper.

Needless to say, Quincy Quarry News will be monitoring things to see if a second snow emergency is imposed later this week.
