Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch goes 0 for 7 with the Supreme Judicial Court on his unconstitutional plans to install on a public building statues of Roman Catholic patron saints that he paid for with taxpayers’ money.
In a bit earlier than expected rulings, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court unanimously ruled in no uncertain terms against Mayor Koch’s motions rulings appeals and as has been long expected by Quincy Quarry as well as also so remanded the case back to Superior Court for an but certain win by the plaintiffs at trial.
About the only unknown how is how doggedly might Mayor Thomas Koch continue to fight an all but certain lost cause, especially given that recently obtained City Hall communications and such are likely to be submitted as evidence at trial.

Tommy should erect a statue, outside city hall, to St Jude the patron saint of lost causes.
The Real Patron Saints of Quincy City Hall:
The Patron Saint of City Jobs (The Nepotism Special):
Need a cushy gig on the city payroll for a useless cousin or sn idiot son-in-law? St. Cajetan is technically the patron of job seekers, but in Quincy, the real miracle-worker is just having the right last name or a bumper sticker from the last mayoral campaign and a check made payable to the Committee to elect Fatty McNepotismpants.
The Patron Saint of the Overpriced Sculptor:
You have to wonder which saint the Mayor’s favorite artist is praying to while laughing all the way to the bank. St. Luke is the patron of sculptors, but for the guy pocketing your hard-earned taxpayer cash for these statues, the true deity is the Almighty Dollar—and business is booming.
The Patron Saint of the City Hall OUI:
For the mayoral staffers and city workers who get caught driving under the influence but somehow manage to keep their licenses and their jobs, they might want to glue a statue of St. Martin of Tours (patron of sobriety) to the dashboard.
Let’s clear the air before the hacks in Quincy try to sell you another bill of goods. The Catholic Church has never taught that a hunk of bronze or a concrete statue offers a dime’s worth of protection to a cop or a firefighter. It’s called intercession, folks. The saints pray to God; they don’t jump out of the bushes to stop a bullet or put out a three-alarmer. But don’t tell that to the high-and-mighty crowd down at City Hall who love any excuse to spend your money on another taxpayer-funded lawn ornament.
Does anyone know if the driver of the car that recently crashed into a house on Sea Street was trying to avoid a dog or turkey similar to another crash on Sea Street in October of 2016? At least the driver did not careen across the Fore River bridge as happened in March of 2013. Also, it was not St Patrick’s Day…
John,
Bad ice cubes happen …
Let’s us not the forget fundamental reason people became infuriated with the statues. That was Tom Koch spent 850 thousand dollars without getting approval for the city council or the citizens of Quincy. The purchase was reported in the Patriot Ledger and then council president Cain was outraged the Ledger printed the purchase of the statues. Cain claimed the council had no knowledge of the statues. Yet when the issue became a hot button for Koch the council buckled under. With DiBona, McCarthy, Devine and Cain jumping in to defend the suspected illegal purchase.
Moving forward citizen groups assembled to oppose the statues on grounds the taxpayers’ dollars being wasted. Others were upset with the separation of church and state clause and organized. The mayor and his solicitor moved forward in taking the case to court again using taxpayers’ dollars to cover underhand purchase. The lame 2025 council refused to take a stand for the citizens of Quincy.
Now we have the woman from Weymouth and her alliance of haters with the rally cry too protect the Statues. The compensation for her devious and underhanded work will eventually be revealed and her calls with solicitor Timmins will something of the past.
You cannot make this stuff up. La Kocha Nostra will live on until the Feds come knocking and that may be sooner than later.
The $850,000 sneak purchase of these statues is only part of the story. An overlooked aspect of the story is that the front of the new police and fire departments building was clearly designed and constructed to provide space specifically for the religious images. Apparently the statues haven’t provided any protection from the thievery and burning up of taxpayer dollars.
Sleaze with a capital K.
How bout putting the name Quincy Public Safety Building on the damn monstrosity, certainly people gridlocked on Sea St will know what the F it is.
Anyone notice vacancy/non vacancy at the 105 Sea St grift perpetrated by our corrupt City Solicitor?
A,
But, but — surely the plan was to name the Public Safety Building for The Beav until things became untenable c/o Randy Andy.
AND as for the vacancies, rumor has it that none of the units sold and the silent money kicked Team Timmins out of the deal per typical such funding terms.
Funny how Karma wreaks just desserts.
Another big loss for Timmins? Say it ain’t so. He’s 0 ‘fer yet again. He cannot win a case nor sell a condo unit. Go figure. He should be in front of the Bar Association for wasting the Court’s time with frivolous cases that Tommy tells him he has to prosecute. From the Statues to the Bridge, he is wasting our money and the Court’s time. He should be held responsible. How does it feel to suck at everything, Jim?
A consigliere yet again failing to deliver for his Don — sounds vaguely familiar …
