Quincy Square’s Kim Jong Koch Plaza maintenance efforts unarguably cross over to Obsessive-Compulsive, Part II.

While out and about following up on another ongoing series of exposés of the City of Quincy’s so-called public infrastructure maintenance efforts, it concurrently lucked into yet another follow-up story about the over-the-top maintenance of Kim Jong Koch Plaza.

In this case, Quincy Quarry News personnel happened upon one of Kim Jong Koch Plaza’s Snow Team Six team members power sanding with a palm power sander one of the plaza’s many wood benches for a likely refinishing to follow.

So what if the proper choice of a tropical hardwood should not result in needing to undertake such obsessive maintenance.

In fact, such maintenance can be contrary to best practices.

Tropical hardwood’s used outdoors are best maintained by letting them season and so leach out some of the wood’s oil such that the wood can weather to an attractive natural patina or perhaps instead be cleaned and then sealed the wood annually.

However, as the wood at Kim Jong Koch Plaza has long been power washed almost daily on the weekdays, the wood’s original factory finish seal coat was thus quickly washed away as well as so also disrupted the natural weathering of the wood to an attractive patina.

That and given how the concurrent less than ideal care of the wood undertaken so far to return the wood to its fresh from the factory look has actually only worsened matters.

And in the meanwhile, Quincy Quarry’s newsroom newshounds have set up a pool as to when the Koch Maladministration might opt to replace the wood on the benches care of improper maintenance.
