Governor Charlie Baker ended the activation of a thousand Massachusetts National Guard troops as of midnight on Monday.

Governor Baker activated guard troops on Friday, however, he did not give a detailed reason as to why.

On Monday, officials said the mobilization of guard troops was undertaken given the potential for large (and problematic, ed.) demonstrations over the weekend; however, no even but vague indications as to where trouble had been feared to potentially occur were disclosed nor did any trouble erupt anywhere in the Commonwealth over the weekend.

At the same time, to this less than candid statement, Quincy Quarry News must add that late last week it was e-copied with written e-rumor mongering that the National Guard mobilization was fueled at least in part by concerns of rioting in Quincy given plans of yet another peaceful protest event organized by the Eastern Nazarene College Black Student Union.

John Adams would have surely approved of their calls for change.

While this latest peaceful protest event was subjected to a one day weather delay, it went off as peacefully on Sunday and as have the previous three events organized by the Eastern Nazarene students and which have been supported by a diverse range of individuals, including local clergy.

Needless to say, one can only hope that the Corner Office appears to know a case of the telephone game when it may have heard of this local rumor mongering, if not also fear mongering.
