Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus is calling it quits after 146 years of presenting “The Greatest Show on Earth.”
Times and audiences have changed.
Said Circus Chairman and CEO Kenneth Feld, “Try getting a 3- or 4-year-old today to sit for 12 minutes.”
The animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals welcomed the announcement Saturday night, calling it “the end of the saddest show on earth” and demanding that other acts follow suit.
Quincy Quincy also suspect at least some backlash arising from scary clowns and coulrophobia further fueled the demise of “The Greatest Show on Earth.”
Granted, nothing lasts forever and there are other circuses around, but one cannot help but suspect that the world will not be same when the final curtain fails on this circus.
