Quincy has been hit with brush fires recently as well as faces a flaming financial maelstrom.

As for the brush fires, Quincy Quarry News scooped its first ever free, easy, and candid interview of a sort from a City of Quincy official.

How?

A Quincy Quarry reporter talked up the fire chief and so found out as well as then reported that the recent spate of brush fires is seen by the Chief as likely including at least some arson fires.

While no official words of warning, much less requests for locals to be on the lookout and call local authorities if anything suspicious is so seen, at least Quincy Quarry News got the word out to locals to beware as well as call in as might be appropriate.

In other words, do as Officer McGruff says: “if you see something, say something®.”

Motivation 101

And speaking of acting in the public interest, Quincy Quarry light fires under the tuchuses of certain City Council members over Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s record breaking going away near 10% increase duly counted proposed spending increase for the upcoming fiscal year.

That and how Mayor Koch’s budget includes gobsmacking up to as much as 33% raises for his inner circle of senior coat holding suits – many of whom are not exactly known for heavy lifting, much less effectiveness in certain instances – while most city employees are only slated for 3% raises.

Making a difference at the ballot box against entrenched interests

Not only is such a larding for but the few obscene, one has to further ponder how such massive outlays to patronage hack hires will play out in an election year.

Cases in point, a city employee works out to having influence on the voting decisions of around a guesstimated four other voters.

Additionally, there are the tens of thousands of local homeowners along with other property taxpayers.

After all, not only will these property taxpayers have to cover most of the nut of the increased spending, Mayor Koch has also set in place further kicks to the nuts or groins of local taxpayers in coming years as he continues to worsen the City of Quincy’s structural deficit problems via his free spending as well as typically profligate ways.

“Look, I could tax (even, ed.) more”

For example, his grand vision for a New Quincy Center is looking to run a couple/three million in the red this year.

Even worse, at least as much red ink should be expected next year with even more red ink to follow for decades in coming years care of his long-stumbling plans for A New Quincy Center given rather than yielding the positive net tax revenue stream once touted by Mayor Koch but which he stopped saying a while back.

A long while back.

Instead, now he is opting to tout his own personal favorite: the opening of new restaurants in Quincy Center even as old Quincy favs are facing elimination.

That and also keep in mind that to see his grand vision for A New Quincy Center perhaps actually sorta/kinda happen even if not fiscally so as far as taxpayers are concerned, it is thus entirely also fair to further note that while his grand plan has been mired in the mud for over a decade.

Even so, Mayor Koch has handed out tens of millions of dollars, if not also has plans to hand out even more many millions more, in incentives to certain Quincy Center redevelopers so as to endeavor to prime the pump.

Fed up taxpayers revolting

Redevelopers who for the most part surely but coincidentally are generous and in at least a couple of instances illegal contributors to his campaign fund as well as likely also to his pet projects’ funds, the books of which are not open to ready public scrutiny.

In turn as well as all things considered, one can only wonder when Quincy will turn into a towering as well as out of control financial inferno.

After all, one can only assume that at some point the natives will likely become restless.
