Quincy Quarry News Weekly Fish Wrap: Mayor Koch folds like a cheap suit after first stepping into “it”

A group of mostly plucky females duly took Quincy Mayor Thomas P.  Koch to task for his slighting Abigail Adams, easily one of the most significant females of her era, over his first dissing of her by first removing her locally beloved statue of her with a young John Quincy from Quincy Square and then planning to relocate the statue in an out of the way as well as utterly wrong site in Merrymount Park.

That and separating her from the matching statue of her beloved husband John Adams.

Even more appalling, after Mayor Koch folded in the face of well-warranted criticism, he then passive-aggressively announced that he would be choosing the sculptor to make a new statue of Abigail Adams as well as  that no public input would be trucked as regards how the sculpture might be fashioned.

Further appalling, the sculptor chosen is the same Soviet-trained emigre who specialize in old school and leaden “heroic” statues of the Stalinist school of banal hagiography.and whose stiff sculptures are already featured along Kim Jong Koch Plaza.

Worse yet, his offer to put see a new statute of Abigail installed on Quincy Square is ultimately yet another a shuck and a jive shoveling of bovine byproduct by the mayor.

How so?

For starters, it will be years unknown before the final phase of Kim Jong Koch Plaza might be built.

How many years?

Piled ever higher and deeper …

Reasons for the uncertainty include, in no particular order, guaranteed plans to redevelop the site of the Munroe Building – now dubiously owned by the City of Quincy – must be set, reach an agreement to actually develop the air rights over the Quincy Center MBTA station, and the MBTA finally opts to renovate the woeful dump that is its Quincy Center station.
