Hammering down on the guilty

The Squantum Sucker Puncher has been convicted of manslaughter and then sentenced to prison.

The jury went out yesterday to decide its verdict and then did so so quickly that the presiding judge for the trial was able to sentence the sucker puncher to 3 to 4 years in prison by midafternoon today.

Granted, conviction was widely assumed to be a given.

Even so, this is still exactly the sort of story that Quincy Quarry’s ever-growing legions of loyal readers turn to for details only the Quarry has the stones to present whenever breaking badly bad news© hits the fan.

In this instance, given the Quarry’s sources both high but mostly low, there may be even more trouble brewing for those variously tied to this senseless tragedy.

For example, rumor has it that the veterans’ post bar that hosted the event which brought the deceased and his twin brother to Quincy for what was expected to be a fun night out is said to have let its liability insurance lapse and so should have had its liquor license at least suspended by the City of Quincy at the time of the deceased’s killing.

Additional as yet unconfirmed rumblings have it that the post’s lease of its space on city property had expired and no lease in place is a no-no as far the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverage Commission is concerned.

Further word on the street yet is that the host(s) of the event failed to apply for the needed “cabaret” event permit to hold the event, much less provide proof of having appropriate liability insurance in place.  Even so, the City of Quincy agreed to provide a police detail for the event and as is also required even if previous reports have indicated that the officer may have left early per standard operating protocols.

And for a particularly troubling new development, a local elected official who has been reported in the media to be a member of the veterans’ post, as well as “suggested” via other ways to be one of the post’s very regular regulars, is rumored to have been pouring beer that fatal night.  Further problematic, this city official is rumored to have let the now-convicted sucker puncher and his awaiting trial on related charges brother back into the veterans post’s bar after they had been kicked out for said to be disorderly conduct.

Granted, these rumors may turn out to be but rumors; however, if any of these rumors can be corroborated to a level that is found to meet the legal standards of a preponderance of evidence in a civil court, additional parties could soon find themselves facing financial pain over contributing to this event of wrongful death,

Ugly financial pain.

Accordingly, count on Quincy Quarry to see that the proper outcomes transpire if the rumors are, in fact, accurate.
