Quincy Quarry Weekly Fish Wrap: Local COVID-19 cases numbers are soaring but Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch is MIA on the COVID-19 pandemic battlefield.

New COVID-19 infections continue to soar in the wake of holiday gatherings, super spreader events and given generally hanging out indoors in typically close quarters during the cold time of year.

Even so, while Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has done his arguable best to be front and center as well as accessible to the jackals of the media as the COVID-19 pandemic has worsened in recent weeks, Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch has all but dropped from sight.

Not only has Mayor Koch canceled or otherwise ducked facetime with media, but also through close of business on January 14 the mayor has not produced and then foisted onto the Internet one of his vapid COVID-19 update YouTube videos on either the City of Quincy Twitter feed and website since Tuesday, January 4 not that anyone is missing his also banal YouTube videos.

And as for just what is up with Quincy’s KOVID Kid himself is unknown at this point, even more troubling is that his point person for matters COVID-19 is bailing at the end of the month.

Granted, Mayor Koch’s COVID-19 point person is a woman past a certain age, given no known official naming of a successor, one cannot help but wonder if she is truly but retiring or is being pushed out the door.

After all, with mass vaccinations still on the horizon, a few more months of a steady hand at the tiller surely could have been a good thing.

Especially given further consideration as regards the difficulty of trying to change horses while stuck in the torrent of a pandemic.

He has got to be kidding …

Returning to Quincy’s MIA mayor, is he is under the weather or has he opted to lay low as word continues to get out about his latest spanking in court after the story was first scooped by Quincy Quarry?

In this latest torching of the mayor’s tukas in court, Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Kimberly Budd thoroughly blasted his latest kochoxtic quest: unjustifiably claiming that the historic Adams Academy building in Quincy Center belongs to the City of Quincy and thus not the Adams Temple and School Fund which paid for its construction.

In turn, given that Mayor Koch has repeatedly, if not also all but invariably, had his head handed back to him on a platter in court during his tenure in office, one cannot help but wonder if he might like it.

And speaking of pain, COVID-19 infection rates in the Q continue to set new record highs every week

Not that such has slowed Quincy’s peerless mayor’s profligate spending habits even as the economy continues to struggle given the ravages of COVID-19.

After all, it’s not his money.

That and he has an Edifice Complex on his back.
