Up a river without a paddle, Heart of Darkness – whatever …

Quincy continues to head further into the COVID-19 Red Zone without a paddle.

Yesterday the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s weekly COVID-19 report noted that Quincy’s infection rate per 100,000 soared by close to 50% from last week’s rate as well as the local testing positive rate went up by 11%, so putting Quincy further into Code Red status.

Even further troubling, Quincy’s latest fourteen-day rolling Total Positive Test number exploded by 40% from 600 cases to 843.

In short, by all germane metrics, Quincy’s COVID-19 risk statistics are worse to significantly worse than statewide averages.

Even so, on Wednesday Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch rolled out his second COVID-19 YouTube update this week, during which he again talked up how things were looking good given a recent but one-day decline in the number of new local infections.

How do you know when a politician is prevaricating?  His lips are moving.

Apparently, he is not familiar with the phenomena of the two steps forward, one backward phenomenon or how perhaps some recently infected locals were unable to be as quickly tested as would be the case were New England not about to be hit by a Nor’easter.

Then again, rolling out this latest vapid video a day before the Department of Public Health’s report did provide him with some arguable plausible deniability by forerunning the impending bad news even if readily available preliminary daily data clearly indicated that Quincy would surely be going further up COVID creek without a paddle.

That and again providing him with an opportunity to dissemble by spending far more of his time during his Wednesday COVID-19 YouTube video bloviating about the then-impending Nor’easter and so changing the subject away from the locally worsening pandemic.

That and as Mayor Koch then continued to do the same during his Thursday COVID-19 YouTube update and which was apparently also released before the Massachusetts Department of Public Health released its weekly COVID19 update late Thursday afternoon.

Even so, surely Quincy Quarry’s ever-growing legions of loyal readers know that the mayor’s upping his recent mostly but one COVID-19 YoutTube update per week up to three this week with today yet to go as clearly indicating that a DEFCON One alert within La Kocha Nostra’s inner circle has all but assuredly been instituted on the down low.
