Quincy Quarry News yet again ran the latest budget numbers and is so able to project the property tax increase come the first of the new tax year in fast-approaching January 2027.
As scoring the needed data from the Koch Machine is never easy to obtain and then run then through Quincy Quarry’s proprietary property tax projection algorithm, the quants on the Quarry’s financial and other affairs desk have implemented AI learning enhancements so as to improve the algorithm’s ability to interpolate missing data.
The quaints also continue be ever-increasingly more adept at clearing away the usual koch and mirrors distractions in the city’s books,

For example, last year’s Quarry projections were fundamentally solid but for the fact that the Koch Maladministration scarfed down more stray honey pots than Winnie the Pooh after he awoke from hibernation so as to mitigate local 2026 property tax levy increases from seriously ugly to merely ugly,
This year, however, given the continuous improvement of the Quarry’s tax increase projection algorithm, the algorithm now includes a honey pot detection and projection subroutine.
Granted, the maladministration’s books continue to be as tangled as a pot of spaghetti; however, the Quarry’s senior financial analyst Edwin L Longdon V was born to follow the money after AI loses the trail.
Accordingly, the Quarry’s consensus expectation is a 9.5%,increase in local property taxes in 2027 per generous to the Koch Machine assumptions with a 1.5% plus/minus range given that on one hand such things as the city’s $5 million snow removal spending overrun were not added into the mix even if on the other hand there is the unlikely more than zero possibility that some more sizeable secret honey pots are still available for draining,

Needless to say, a 9.5% increase would set a Koch era property tax increase as well as would only be possible given the looking likely to be needed tapping of carryover untapped tax levy to cover the nut.
In turn, if Quincy Quarry’s CY 2027 property tax increase projection is sound, city spending will at least leaning on its Prop 2 1/2 levy limit when 2027 property tax rates are expected to be set in December.
Even more troubling, it is also looking highly likely that the Koch Machine will be hamstrung by Prop 2 1/2 in 2028 as well as city spending by whomever is the mayor during the years to many years thereafter given all manner of already impending spending increases.

In turn, such cuts will surely be force wide ranging trimmings of local services provided ranging from cuts to public safety services, school funding and needed pothole filling as well as pretty much everything in-between.
Needless to say. local reaction will likely then play out as one can only expect.
Finally a limit on tax increases. The tax part of my mortgage is now a 1/3 of the total cost.
My taxes keep going up but the services provided are getting worse. The roads are horrible. Yes they are fixing some but not nearly enough. Case in point, Newport Ave has been a mess for 2 years now.
I think that schools have been doing a great job even though their budget seems lower than other towns when adjusted for population but other departments spend like drunken sailors.
The police chief spends bis budgeted money and so he gets even more money the next year. How about we give a small bonus if they have funds left over instead of moving extra money to overtime and other spending.
Reward good behavior on financial tasks instead of I need to spend everything I get — say give a small bonus if come in 5% under budget.
No need for the property tax to increase as we have revenue on the streets of this once great city 24/7 if the police were allowed to do their jobs and go after the speeders and other traffic law violators on our streets. Mayor Koch won’t allow the police to do their jobs because that’s called REVENUE and Koch doesn’t know how to handle it.
Time for a new mayor for Quincy MA, my opinion
The mind boggles as to just the revenue possible c/o citing massholes who bang u’s on Hancock Street near City Hall.
U-turns, Y-turns (both illegally crossing the double yellow lines of course), double parking, triple parking, parking in handicapped and ambulance spaces, parking in bus stops, speeding (or crawling at a snail’s pace), ignoring stop signs, ignoring red lights and ignoring the flashing pedestrian crossing lights, ignoring green lights due to texting and device activity, driving the wrong way on one-way streets, ignoring no-turn-on-red signs, ignoring the lane direction markings painted on the roads, not using directionals (or using the wrong directional). Cyclists, mini bikes and scooters on the streets AND on the sidewalks add to the chaos.
Pedestrians aren’t off the hook — they don’t seem to care about crosswalks, they often don’t press the button at crosswalks, they’re often absorbed in their phones or apparently they don’t care one way or the other. And let’s not forget the utterly uncoordinated traffic signal patterns.
So thank you TPAL or the “Traffic Engineer” or whomever is supposed to be addressing these issues.
It’s a free-for-all, it’s a massive Charlie Foxtrot.
Oh, and the more apartments and condos that are built, the worse it gets.

Who would ever suggest that spending ARPA money for the Munroe Building and the Marina, and pissing away other money for $850K religious statues, the bizarre (and tacky) entrance structure to Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, the copper roof on the new police and fire headquarters, and having pocket parks on every other corner (landscape maintenance will be a perpetual money pit) aren’t prudent uses of our tax dollars?
Those examples are only the tip of the iceberg.
On and on it goes.
But, but — you don’t like the Mt Wollaston Cemetery Lobster Gate?
It’s an insult to those interred there as well as their familes.

So, Dave McCarthy is saved by the mayoral magic of 3 card monte. When will the QFD and QPD begin the campaign for supplemental funding via fear mongering? How does formerly being the security director of General Dynamics Information Technology’s Global Solutions Division qualify him to be the Director of Emergency Management?

Quincy continues to have an Operations Manager on the payroll to take care of Emergency Management “stuff.” He is paid $66,837.00 a year and earned an appropriate degree to do this work from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Koch always repays those who donate, those who are related and those who he can get favors from or councilors who vote his way. Former Councilors always find City Jobs in Quincy. He isn’t shy about it. Look at the campaign fund!

Turns out Koch’s previous Emergency Director kicks the sh#t out of women and the guy before him sexually abused volunteer boys.
Koch calls homosexuals pedophiles and child molesters, especially coaches and teachers — priests of his faith, however, apparently not so much.
Now we are stuck with a double digit loser from the last election.
What could possibly go wrong?
The Council did not cut as heavily as it should have.
For the mayor to defy them and give McCarthy his job back shows there is a ton of hidden fat in and around Tommy and his budget. I’d start with the City Solicitor’s Office. Solicitor Timmins does not represent the City, he is Tommy’s personal consigliere. Cut the his budget completely.
The Traffic Engineer should be next. None of the thousands of traffic signals, in our City, are synced. What the hell does the Traffic Engineer do except make more traffic jams through ignorance? Did she get her PE reinstated? She had let it expire before her hiring. Good job on the background check completed by our Human Resource Department (they can go too as Tommy does all the hiring).
I could go on and on and on even more. The Council should bring a big AXE to the next budget hearings and cut Tommy down to size. Hell, Tommy could also use some additional Wegovy® shots.

In fairness, just the considerable work by the council to see all manner of problems within the budget’s accountings and such fixed deserves serious props.
Further, the $1.7 million in cuts made to the mayor’s proposed budget is surely on the order of more than what previous koched-up council slates have cut in total over at least the past decade.
And as for next year, the council would be wise to for the most part leave it to the mayor to make cuts when he prepares his FY 2028 as he is looking at ugly given that Prop 2 1/2 as well as past set in place spending obligations obligations will be hitting the fan next year.
Think variation on the Pottery Barn rule: Tommy has made the city broke and thus he is accountable.
As for starters, any idea if Solicitor Timmins has malpractice insurance and if so, how much is his coverage?
