— News and commentary about elsewhere covered by Quincy Quarry News
Snow misery continues to grip Quincy as well as at least Eastern Massachusetts.
Yesterday Quincy experienced occasional light falls of graupel to remind locals that it is still winter on the off chance blankets of snow covering much of Quincy, piles of snow along local streets, and cold weather are not sufficient reminders.
Even worse, later today a coating to an inch or so of snow is forecast to fall and thus perhaps be sufficient to dust dirty snowbanks with a fresh top coat.
Further yet, today’s snowfall is likely to followed by perhaps a couple of inches to perhaps plowable snowfall accumulating Friday into Saturday followed by another storm Sunday into Monday, the first day back to school from winter school vacation week.
Particularly worrisome is that the impact and nature of expected Sunday into Monday storm is uncertain at this point as forecast models currently projecting from little if any snow to upwards of eight inches.
What is certain is that on Monday night the Quincy City Council will be holding a hearing to press city officials on their responses to the substantial snowfall storm late last month, subsequent snowfall events, already running millions over the FY 2026 snowfall removal budget as well as even rumors of the City of Quincy temporarily running out of road salt during a winter that has so far only seen but around 80% of the historical average snowfall total.
Needless to say, city officials’ responses to city councillors’ questions should prove interesting, if not also give rise to schadenfreude among at least some observers care of the expected dog and sled show expected to be foisted by the Koch Machine.
In the meanwhile, Quincy Quarry News has conducted yet another after action snow report and this time including a comparison to snow clearing responses outside of Quincy.
Specifically, how Weymouth has dealt with its snow.
Fortuitously, a Quarry staffer had to go to South Shore Hospital for a routine test on February 6 and so found Weymouth’s busy Main Street — also known as Route 18 — cleared from curb to curb from its intersection with Route 3 to at least half a mile past the hospital.
Of further note, Route 18 sidewalks were also mostly clear as well as looking to have been cleared by a mini snowplow of some sort.
Granted, while there was some spillover of small frozen clumps of snow onto 18’s sidewalks likely from road clearing efforts, almost two weeks ago its sidewalks were cleared down to the pavement and so providing a ready pathway for pedestrians even if here and there perhaps not sufficiently cleared for someone in a wheelchair.
Conversely, yesterday in Quincy Point Quincy Quarry News found a roadside snow bank that intruded four feet into what is the narrow four lane busy roadway that is Washington Street east of Southern Artery.
Similarly found yesterday were a number of residential side streets in the Point as well as elsewhere were found to be rife with snow piles.
Again as well as needless to say, this coming Monday’s City Council snow clearing hearing should prove to be brutally cold care of the anticipated questions that will be asked.

Snowbank intruding four feet into the street, left; snow piles impacted residential street, right.
