— Quincy Massachusetts News by Quincy Quarry News – News, Opinion and Commentary.
Quincy local elections results last week played out differently than expected by at least the denizens of the Quincy’s two city halls.
Specifically, that five female candidates and one male member of the Rebel Alliance cleaned house in the City Council along with two of their fellow traveler newcomers elected to serve on the School Committee come the first of the year.
Further, most of the upset win races were blowout wins over koched-up status quo vassals.
How big were the upsets?
Even usually imperturbable Quincy Quarry News was surprised by the election outcomes even though it posed that things were definitely in flux late in the campaign season given a relentless series of breaking badly bad newe© targeting Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch even though he was not on the ballot this fall.
How things then played out boils down to one thing: getting out the vote whereas incumbents spending between twice to roughly ten times as much more failed to stem their routings.
Not only did the challengers out door knock their opponents, the efforts of three of the challengers who are of Asian heritage were enhanced by organized support given the City of Quincy’s long refusing to make Lunar New Year a school holiday on the days it falls on a weekday that is not also the Presidents’ Day federal Monday holiday.
While hard to specifically discern how much the challengers’ get out the vote effort actually enhanced the vote, two things are clear.
The City of Quincy City Clerk predicted an 18% to 20% turnout whereas actual turnout ran 22.97%.
In turn, Quincy Quarry News’ polling quants on its election desk were able to interpolate the turnout differential from an arguably suppressed voter turnout expectations as arguably the only plausible explanation why four widely viewed to be long shot challenges by first time and lightly funded candidates instead won to flat out smoked their opponents.
The second clear result of the election?
How many now lame duck incumbents are said to be or at least rumored to have been at least shocked if not also blind-sided by the election results.
In short, a long taken for granted sleeping tiger looks to have finally awoken along with an overlay of a handful of females who are past their basta points and thus things are going to be different for what is left of the koched-up boyos in City Hall come the start of 2026.
An epic tectonic shift different.
