The mostly rain event Friday night turned into glazing snow event on top of rain that once combined then froze into black ice when overnight temperatures plummeted.

In turn, absent consequential treating of local streets with salt, Quincy Quarry News’ Citizen Police Scanner Monitors heard of many vehicular crash calls Friday night.

In turn, it was only reasonable to assume that it was a good night for towing services and auto body shops but at the same time a rough night for first responders.

That and auto insurance companies.

By Saturday morning, however, local snow and ice removal efforts were much improved even if mostly but salt spread at it was the only viable way to go as the snowfall had mostly been but a coating at most over black ice.

Salt trucks were thus seen rolling out and about Quincy.

Additionally, a police radio call was heard calling for a salting of Newbury Avenue and upon which Quincy’s peerless mayor lives.

However, such was surely but a coincidence along what is not a shaded street and thus is quick to see snow and/or ice on it melt during the light of day.

An all but invariably well-detailed mayoral ride

Also curious was how the mayor’s full-sized SUV city ride was seen driving about on Hancock Street early morning on Saturday on its way to Merrymount Street and so likely headed to either Department of Public Works and/or Police headquarters.

Why curious was not that the mayor was out and about in his city ride,

Rather, what was curious was that his jet black ride was spotless on a day when most cars were covered with road salt even though his ride was far away from a car wash when it was spotted by a roving Quincy Quarry News Citizen Road Monitor..

Similarly curious was how the VIP parking lot behind City Hall had a surprising number of personal rides in it given such a modest storm event, especially as the Saturday morning snow event was a modes snow melted when it hit the pavement snow event.

In any event, weekend overtime surely piled up while the city’s salt pile inventory continues to decrease in size to  disconcerting level per Quincy Quarry News’ unofficial sources..
