Needless to say, National Beer Day is a red letter day in the Quincy Quarry News Newsroom.

Even better, this year National Deer Day also falls on a Sunday and so making for a double double day, if not a triple as at 3 pm today the Iowa Hawkeyes and North Carolina Gamecocks face off in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship game, a game which is expected to be by far the most widely watched college women’s hoops title game in history.

And for a bit of history, on April 7, 1933 the legal sale of commercially-made beer resumed in the wake of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signing The Beer and Wine Revenue Act.   This act allowed the resumption of the legal sale of wine as well as beer stronger than near beer.  In turn, the act was the first step towards revoking the Volstead  Act and which had given rise to the long national nightmare that was Prohibition.

Cheers!
