So, two ice cawfee regulars

As comes as no great surprise to most anyone, the Boston accent was recently ranked as both the least attractive and most annoying accent.

That and so beat out the New York accent as well as surely so yielding yet another bragging right for locals even though the New England Patriots currently suck on a par with both the also lowly New York Giants and Jets.

UPDATE: The New York Jets win their second game this season, unlike both the New England and New York Giants.

On the hand, however, the Boston accent is rapidly becoming as rare as hearing an Irish brogue in Southie from anyone other than an Irish tourist or an actor working on location for yet another Whitey Bulger-based movie.

Reasons include that even Revere is further along in gentrifying than Quincy, the flat accents sought by most area broadcast news outlets are steadily impacting the local patois, and even Sesame Street is corrupting Boston area youth as only some of its cast have accents even if the timbre of their voices generally is often more than a bit high-pitched.

Additionally, the influx of immigrants in recent years has added new accents into the local mix.

Plus, the old-timers at the Eire Pub in Boston’s Adams Village neighborhood are dying off.

Fortunately, Hollywood and Madison Avenue, and even New Hampshire are keeping Boston accent alive.

For now anyway.
