Amazon closing fulfillment centers as its boom fades

After decades of rapid growth even during – if not also because of – the COVID pandemic, Amazon is now closing down five of its fulfillment centers in Massachusetts, including a but two-year-old facility in Mansfield, as well as an undisclosed number more fulfillment centers elsewhere.

“Plans call for consolidating the work done at the facilities into other locations, Amazon New England spokesperson Caitlin McLaughlin said in a statement Wednesday.”

Added Ms McLaughlin, “We regularly look at how we can improve the experience for our employees, partners, drivers, and customers, and that includes upgrading our facilities.  These (new, ed.) facilities provide upgraded amenities, including increased on-site parking, larger operational spaces, and better breakrooms with open market vending.”

Apparently, a two-year-old facility is out of date …
