Quincy Brine Time.
While many locals were out and about enjoying a perfectly balmy day today, especially for this time of year, city employees were out even earlier spreading brine in anticipation of tomorrow’s dramatic change in the weather and expected modest snowfall.
After the less than compelling performance in recent to the near record-setting Bombogenisis Blizzard of 2022 and then with the sleet and ice storm that followed a week later, it was heartening to see for a change a proactive response to the snowfall expected tomorrow.
On the other hand, the brine was being spread early to way too early as it is drying and then blowing away.
Then again, the city workers spreading the brine probably wanted to catch a little sunshine this afternoon.
In any event, the snow piles in front of Quincy’s Two City Halls lining Kim Jong Koh Plaza continues to slowing melts.
So, for the last “event” in which icing was actually predicted, the only brine to be found was if you were brining a turkey or some other meat.
But now, in “preparation” for a possible — possible — one to three possible inches, the floodgates of brine are open and the brine is flowing freely — there’s brine on streets that never saw a drop before.
It’s just heartening to see that the city has such a coherent, consistent policy.
Wasting money is always in fashion in the City of Quincy.
Spreading salt when it’s almost 60 degrees.
Nothing like wasting money while getting paid at overtime rates.
They forecasted a coating to an inch in Quincy. My question is, is that for snow or salt?
My yard has seen over two inches of snow so far (2pm on Sunday) , so I am thinking the one inch forecast was for salt.
The weather forecasters deserve a severe negative rating for this one. They missed by a mile. The forecast went from a coating to an inch, then to maybe one to three inches, then one to five inches, then they started adding in ocean effect snow. It was going to be a short-lived snow event — it was actually a 24-hour insult.
As it turned out their predictions were only accurate at the moment they made them. Mine were just as accurate — I looked out the window and it was either snowing or it wasn’t. I cleaned the cars and cleared the driveway four times yesterday/last evening — every time the snow “stopped”– and once early this morning. Now, going out at around 10:00 AM on Monday, I have to clean my car again.
I’ll take a blizzard like the last one (over and done) any day — this is just irritating b*llshit snow.
