– News about Quincy from Quincy Quarry News.
Quincy Center finally sees some new parking capacity.
While but a few spaces and only allowing short-term parking, several free parking spaces were recently made available to the general public in recent days along Saville Avenue adjacent to the President Place office building.
At the same time, one has to wonder why it took months to make these few parking stations available for use by the public after first posting no parking signs precluding parking at these few spaces.
That and still not officially opening up parking at the roughly fifty space parking lot next to Quincy Center MBTA station and which has not had long-term parking available at the station since the now-former MBTA parking garage at the station was condemned and closed over the Fourth of July holiday over nine years ago.
Then again, with Koch Maladministration VIP’s and certain of its favored hack hires at City Hall already as well as long having reserved parking, it is not like the maladministration is all that motivated to come up with a plan to utilize the city’s acquired roughly five months ago $4 million parking lot.
Then again, planning and then actually implementing the plan in a timely manner is not something that the Koch Maladministraion is known for doing.
Sadly, I doubt the few spots will make much of a difference.
I’m rarely able to park in front of my house due to MBTA commuters hogging up the parking spots in my neighborhood.
Live in Hingham, work in Boston, and park for free in Quincy needs to stop!
Meanwhile, more condos and apartments are being built without enough parking spots.
Quincy government sucks!
One can’t help but suspect that this bump-in is going to create a whole set of new problems. First, will a parking enforcement officer be coming by every fifteen minutes to monitor adherence to the 15-minute parking designation? I doubt it.
The obvious follow-up question is will people honor the 15-minute rule? One can confidently doubt that as well.
I can also almost guarantee that people will park in the dead center of this space rather than parking at one end or the other and so making it difficult for others to park. Lines could be painted to indicate the parameters for each parking space but I doubt that’s in the cards.
People will be making U-turns directly out of this space. That and parking in the wrong direction — just as they did when there was NO parking provided. This was not well thought out (No surprise there).
All told, things will be either entertaining or maddening, depending on one’s perspective.
