City of Quincy-owned Quincy Center parking lot Koch-blocked?

As Quincy Quarry’s ever-growing legions of loyal readers know, Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch unilaterally bought the Munroe Building in Quincy Center adjacent to Quincy’s two city halls so as to (perhaps, ed.) eventually build a combined tower housing a new third City Hall as well as a home for the long foundering and city-owned Quincy College on the down-low with federal America Recovery Program Act (“ARPA”) grant money.

Some are more equal than others …

So what, apparently that the Quincy City Council had made it clear that it would not for a change agree to fund this latest Kochian Edifice Complex proposal which would likely cost a couple hundred million all costs duly considered, there is still some potential benefit nonetheless even if is but a modest one in comparison to what is actually needed in Quincy Center.

The benefit: parking.

Part of the $15 million spent by Mayor Thomas Koch to purchase a site to build his latest boondoggle included the purchase of a fifty space parking lot immediately adjacent to the Quincy Center MBTA station and which has not had provided any public parking for straphangers since its now mostly demolished parking garage was condemned and so closed over nine years ago.

Granted, while (officially, ed.) making the fifty spaces available to the public for parking would only replace a bit less than 6% of the 872 spaces lost when the now long gone Quincy Center MBTA garage was closed, any additional parking capacity in Quincy Center would surely be appreciated.

Plus, the de facto average price of $80,000 paid for each of the fifty ready to use parking spaces is not all that much more than the $65,000 average cost per space spent by the Koch Maldadministration to build the somewhat nearby Kilroy Square parking garage on the site of now-former Hancock surface parking lot across the street from Quincy District Courthouse.

So far, however, the spaces have not been officially made available even if the parking lot’s access gate is now gone.

At the same time, as the parking lot is thus now readily accessible and as well as that it would clearly appear to not be duly posted as regards limiting the use of this now public property for parking, one can only assume that given the absence any blocking of access to the parking lot as well as no readily apparent signage proscribing the use of these parking spaces that there would thus appear to not be any compelling reasons for one to not park in this currently wide-open as well as city-owned parking lot.

Potholes are no big deal to long-suffering locals …

Plus, surely dealing with the pothole at the entrance to this parking lot is no big deal for locals who are long used to dealing with potholes in local streets.

At the time, however, any locals who might opt to use this local public property for parking who might then end up cited and/or towed should not try to blame Quincy Quarry News. 

Rather, one should at least consider taking the CIty of Quincy to District Court to challenge any citation or towing as the City of Quincy has failed to both secure the parking lot and/or duly post appropriate signage.

That and be sure to take some smartphone photo to support one’s claim that the parking lot was not properly posted with appropriate signage.

After all, judges did to find favor with sound evidence and compelling arguments.

That and relish dope slapping ill-prepared dopes who appear before them.
