No Koch Hall at Quincy Collge?
A City of Quincy rendering

Quincy Quarry Weekly Fish Wrap: A Christmas Miracle in May?

Will wonders ever cease?

This week the usually all but invariably obsequious Quincy City Council pushed back against Quincy’s without equal free-spending Mayor Thomas P. Koch for a change.

A huge as well as gobsmacking change as a matter of fact.

At least three to arguably as many as five councillors went on the record against the latest Kochian Edifice Complex whereas the rest of the councillors other than Team Koch’s head cheerleader pretty much keep their mouths shut and their tukas’ covered.

How will the all but silent three vote?

If five or more vote no to Mayor Koch’s latest proposed grift at this coming Monday’s City Council meeting, his thoroughly ill-advised and ever more appallingly ill-planned nine-figure proposed bet that he can save Quincy College from going the way of many other already closed fourth and fifth tier colleges that had been also losing money hand over fist before they were closed will then also be pulled off the table.

That and his intertwined collateral play to sate his Edifice Complex jones by scoring himself roughly $60 million in new City Hall space, along with likely also sotto voce planning to so also score himself a 16th-floor penthouse office suite or at least meeting room view.

So what, however, for the fact that Mayor Koch is a Quincy Junior College dropout.

As it was, a vote was almost taken last night to can this grift from inflicting misery on local taxpayers for decades; however, the meeting chair and mayor’s last remaining vocal cheerleader rode roughshod over things, including the repeated committing of arguable violations of both Roberts Rules and City Council protocols.

Then again, in Quincy, “(t)he code is more what you’d call ‘guidelines’ than actual rules.”

That and so what for the fact that the City Council President pointedly as well as unequivocally stated that she would not vote to approve what she correctly views as a financially ruinous as well as over way over the top grandiose bad idea.

Accordingly, as a final vote should be taken this coming Monday, one can only thus assume that considerable thuggery, if not also leg-breaking, will be at least intimated over the weekend so to endeavor to change minds even if it would appear that just maybe a majority of the City Council have finally hit their respective basta points.

Further, in the face of fervent for a change opposition to this latest Kochian grift, the always obliging of the mayor City Council Finance Committee Chair countered by all but saying that he would see that meetings on this matter would continue until such time as one council member then added that the committee chair gets his way.

Needless to say, Quincy Quarry’s ever-growing legions of loyal readers can count on the Quarry to monitor upcoming events, if not also only reasonable to expect body blows and checks into the boards by Team Koch members and especially its enforcers.
