How nine COVID-19 vaccines work.

As COVID-19 vaccination is ramping up and thus we can only hope is, in turn, setting the stage for the end of the chaos triggered by the now roughly year-old pandemic, it might be a good time for those with some spare time to read up on how a number of vaccines work.

That and so perhaps help some readers become more comfortable with undergoing vaccination. 

After all, reports indicate that at least the two vaccinations approved for use in the United States are on the order of as no risker than a flu shot to head off a disease roughly a tenth as deadly as is COVID-19 and the added benefit of higher to much higher effectiveness.

Even better, the COVID-19 vaccines have the potential to end the ravages of the pandemic if enough people are vaccinated to secure so-called “herd immunity” – somewhere in the range of 75% to 95% of the population, depending on which expert(s) one might care to believe – and so staunch the scourge of COVID-19, at least domestically.

And as for the rest of the world, Quincy Quarry is already aware of expectations at the highest levels that it is going to take a while to vaccinate a sufficient number of the world’s population for our ever-increasingly interconnection of national economies to return to some semblance of a new normal that might somewhat resemble the old normal that ended over a year ago.

At this same time, the lingering of the hangover of the economic and social carnage that the COVID-19 has inflicted upon civilization is looking to be the mother of all hangovers.
