Hingham police look to improve pedestrian safety after crash injures nine year old.

Hingham Police have stepped up traffic law enforcement efforts and are looking for more ways to increase traffic safety in the area.

“It’s not that it’s unsafe.  It’s just that human error sometimes takes over,” Hingham Police Sergeant Jeff Kilroy, the department’s traffic officer, said.

“However, we do know that we can obviously make safety improvements,” Sergeant Kilroy added.

Earlier this month, a nine year-old Hingham boy was badly hurt after a driver pulled around a car stopped at the crosswalk in front of Plymouth River School on High Street and hit the child.

In the wake of the crash, neighbors have been quick to point out that drivers frequently speed down High Street.

“As a traffic division, we try to stress education as a component of enforcement, Kilroy said.

“Unfortunately, people are more distracted than ever,” added Kilroy.

Conversely, so far no word to the media from Quincy’s City Hall in the wake of the fourth recent local pedestrian fatality in less two months.

Then again, the Koch Machine has long been known for avoiding the media in the wake of local major problems hitting the fan.

For but one example, almost exactly a year ago a Quincy police cruiser struck and seriously injured a locally well-known and beloved seventy-nine year-old barber.

That and how Quincy is a dangerous place for pedestrians according to a recent study.
