The Queen of Soul has passed.

 

Aretha Franklin, the preacher’s daughter who became an American soul music legend, died earlier today after an extended battle with pancreatic cancer.

 

Remembered for hits including Respect and I Say A Little Prayer, Franklin won 18 Grammys, had 17 Top Ten US chart hits over a musical career spanning seven decades, she was without a peer as a performer or as a person.

Ms. Franklin was also the first woman elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
