Quincy Quarry loves parades!
If you also love parades, this weekend offers two distinct choices.
In Quincy, the sixty-sixth annual Quincy Flag Day Parade will be led as usual by Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch.
This parade is a traditional smaller city parade featuring high school marching bands, drill teams, a few floats, a number of first responder rides, classic cars, pandering politicians and – inexplicably – the Quincy Department of Public Work’ toy robot known as Stumpy in the Quincy Quarry News newsroom.
It took a little way to find Flag Day parade particulars however as the City of Quincy taxpayers-subsidized and Number One Ward Heeler-administrated Discover Quincy website did not provide any event particulars.
Even so, the Quarry was eventually able to find a link listing the times and events planned in Quincy on Flag Day.
In any event, the parade starts at 7 pm on Saturday, June 9th in Quincy Center and ends near Merrymount Park and where there will be other events as well as fireworks after sunset.
And for those who seek a bit more color as well as perhaps enjoy show tunes, the usually far better attended 2017 Boston Pride Parade kicks off at noon on Saturday, June 10 at noon at Copley Square and then meanders through the South End and concludes at the Boston Common where all manner of additional festivities will be held.
Of interest to some, the different times for each parade allows one to go to both.
No matter which way you go, both parades offer an enjoyable time even if one isn’t exactly diverse.
Just be sure to pack plenty to drink as the weekend forecast is a hot one, especially in certain dance and other clubs in Boston.
