Quincy Unleashes Snow SWAT Team on City Hall VIP Parking Lot.

While out on a Saturday morning dog walk of the Quincy Quarry News Team Dog Sled Team sled dogs after last night’s modest snowfall, Quincy Quarry News personnel happened up a full court press effort to clear the City Hall VIP parking lot.

So what, apparently, for the fact that City Hall is closed for the weekend.

In what one might assume was an attempt at both continuous improvement as well as both taking care of City Hall VIP’s parking spaces as well as protecting one’s paycheck, not one, not just two, but rather three pieces of at least middle weight heavy equipment were photographed while hard at work clearing snow in the early morning hours today after last night’s perhaps but several inch light feather dusting of snow.

And rolling out all the equipment was not limited to the City Hall VIP parking lot: two enclosed mini snow plows were spotted clearing what little snow remained on the walkways in front of City Hall after workers had spread more salt on City Hall walkways than the Roman spread upon Carthage in 164 BCE.

Side streets of side concern?

The rest of Quincy, however, did not necessarily enjoy the same full VIP experience.  In fact, nowhere close to the full VIP experience.

While – admittedly – most main streets were readily passable and the overnight snowfall upon them mostly either melted or plowed away or melted by spread salt, a number of neighborhood streets would appear to have received little more than single blade width passes and were thus left with little more than double track wide goat paths for passageways.

Considering how failing to plow at least somewhat close to from curb to curb in the wake of the Blizzard of 2015 thus left previous little room to plow the many feet of snowfall that followed, one can thus only have valid concerns going forward given that at least one potentially heavy snowfall event forecast during the next forty eight hours as well as the potential for even more to soon follow.

Conversely, given Quincy Quarry’s ever growing legions of loyal readers, the Quarry has so been advised that streets in other communities were generally found to be in better much better shape than those in Quincy following the recent days’ snowfall.

Given that Quincy Quarry has every reason to assume that the Koch Administration has already spent this year’s two million dollar plus snow removal budget allocation, one can only wonder where the Q all the money went.

Other shortcomings of the Koch Administration include that it would appear that City Hall was the first and probably only municipal facility to see such a massive snow removal effort even if it will remain closed for at least the rest of the weekend.

Conversely, the walkways to the always busy as well as open over the weekend main Crane Library were uncleared even after the library had opened up to use by the general public this morning, not to mention  remained uncleared until into the afternoon hours later.

So much for the less able

Further problems include that while City Hall VIP parking spaces continues to be well-taken care, the already scarce availability of handicapped parking space in Quincy Center was found hopelessly – if not also dangerously –  snow-covered for any disabled person desperate enough to dare going out on the increasingly mean streets of Quincy Center.

In any event, as well as always, expect Quincy Quarry to exposé both what is not being done for most residents but is being more than well-done for a certain self-important benefiting few.
