“Follow the money.” ALWAYS follow the money.

Care of a dime dropped Quincy Quarry News’ way, the Quarry is now able to readily review online City of Quincy year-to-date spending data.

In turn, the Quarry is able to report that the City is so far running over 9 million dimes over budget — 40% over budget on a percentage basis — on snow and ice removal efforts halfway through the winter season.

Granted, a top ten record snowfall storm hit the Metro Boston area just short of two weeks, however, total snowfall to date this winter is running roughly but half of historical full winter totals.

More importantly, locals are for more the most part giving the Koch Maladministration but middling marks on its snow clearing efforts.

The top complaints?

While streets were cleared relatively quickly plowed, a number of streets were not plowed anywhere close to from curb-to-curb and so giving rise to constricted streets and often less than usable curb side parking.

Further, this partial plowing was particularly common on residential streets.

Sidewalk cleaning was also viewed as falling short.

Seriously short.

Such partial snow clearing thus poses potential problems given future snow storms given that hard frozen plowed snow already along the side of many local streets restricts available space to plow subsequent snowfall.

While, admittedly, some melting has occurred in recent days, polar frigid weather has returned as well as two to four or so inches of snow is forecast to fall over the next thirty-six hours.

Granted, two to four inches or so of fresh snow is likely manageable, long range forecast are indicating the potential of more snowfall after the President Holiday weekend.

On a bright note, do note that the City Council has scheduled a hearing at its next meeting on February 23 to review the Koch Maladministration’s response to the mid-January snow event.

Needless to say, Quincy Quarry New’s ever-growing legions can count on it to cover the inquisition and then reporting on it as only the Quarry is capable of doing
