The recent primary election played out as expected by Quincy Quarry News for the most part, albeit with a few surprises.
In the eight person race to cut down to six candidates to compete for three at Large council seats in November’s general election, the two newcomers who were expected by Quincy Quarry News to fall by the wayside care of the primary election did so.
And as for surprises in this primary election, one was how a former at Large Councillor running to return to the city council topped the field as well as by a fair margin over the usual at Large top vote-getter.who instead finished second in spite of or perhaps because of his yet again littering Quincy with campaign signs.
Further, problematic for the mayoral Mini Me wannabe second place finisher, the former councilor looking to return to the council spent bupkis whereas the wannbe spent into five figures in August per OCPF candidate report filings.
Even so, perhaps the bigger surprise of the at Large primary was that the first time female Asian candidate come in fourth given a solidly respectable votes received.
So respectable was her vote total that if she can maintain her momentum she could conceivably overtake the incumbent third place finisher and so take his seat on the city council come the start of 2026.
And as for the only other primary, while the Ward 6 incumbent topped the field, it was barely by 2% over the second place finisher who received 35% of the vote.with two other contenders splinting the remaining 28% of the votes cast in a race that saw a 60% greater turnout than was the case for the at Large council seats race.
Needless to stay, such an outsized turnout does not bode well for the incumbent, not to mention that his narrow margin lead by an incumbent further does not bode well for him come the November’s general election.
Then again, there is always a silver-lining as longtime local figure Atherton Hough noted in an earlier Quincy Quarry News story on the primary earlier this week, the post office is always looking for holiday help.
Further, it would appear that the odds are compelling that come the start of 2026 Quincy could have at least three female city councillors with as many as a majority of five is within the realm of possible.
Needless to say, such possibilities have surely seen the good old boys in City Hall call for at least DEFCON Three alert status.
Mahoney will keep lifting the veil on corruption & nepotism in Quincy. I hope Susan, the new Asian candidate , can gain enough votes because she also realizes what is going on in Quincy.
Meanwhile, our professional mourner “CEO” *Boss Hogg* is attending funerals with his $100,000 a year Quincy Police protection officer & being driven around in a 75,000 top of the line city ride to demand & collect all his “Campaign Donations”.
How did Jim Sheets, Tobin, LaRaia & Phelan all manage to drive their own cars & didn’t need a paid protective detail to go to a funeral at a local church? What is actually hilarious is a politician recently got into trouble for taking cash. That was chump change compared to the “Campaign donations” for jobs, promotions & permits.
We made it through and I’m not far behind. Time to up the ante by bringing young voters out to keep Quincy lively while building trust with older voters that a former auditor is exactly what this city needs today.
It sure looks like the political cast of Quincy: The Sequel delivered mostly as scripted except for that cinematic twist where the veteran returned with such gusto that opponents’ yard signs couldn’t keep up!
Further impressive was the strikingly impressive first-time female Asian contender pulling off her own plot twist worthy of a prime-time drama as she’s now the dark horse charging up the polls!
And that 60% turnout boost in Ward 6? I’m calling it now: it’s either a miracle or someone cornered the market on coffee-and-donuts voting incentives.
November’s general election: pop the popcorn Quincy -— this is getting good!
