The heatwave is expected to hit its maximum today as well as potentially setting a record-breaking temperature for June.
The record temperature for June is 100 degrees Fahrenheit and which was reached in 2021, 1952, and 1925 with today forecast to perhaps end up setting a new record but probably will not reach the area’s summertime record temperature of 104 .
On the other hand, give it time for reaching a new record as we are only four days into summer.
Even worse, the humidity is expected to be well into the insufferable range with the Heat Index expected to approach 110 today.
There is one positive and which could also be a record: the harbor water at Wollaston Beach has been testing as safe for swimming in recent days.
Not that any locals will care to dare to do so.
After all, wicked hot today notwithstanding, no Q’ng way do understandably wary long time resident locals care to run the risks of what is often fecal-contaminated water.
Well, color me shocked! A heatwave and clean water at Wollaston Beach? Next you’ll be telling me pigs are flying over Quincy Haven while reciting Shakespeare. 🙄 Sure, the harbor tests came back “safe,” but anyone packing swimmies probably missed the memo about the other frequent guests—runoff, dubious stormwater, and whatever the sewers decide to grace us with right before a summer heat spiral. Thanks, DCR — we’ll RSVP “no thanks” to your watery experiment.
And hey, kudos to Save the Harbor for giving Wollaston an 88% “not gross” rating, but let’s be real: high tide’s still a gamble, especially a day or two after a rainstorm. Because when Mother Nature hits “dumpster fire,” that “safe to swim” sign is basically a dare.
So, folks, go ahead and dive in—if you like living dangerously. Just don’t cry about it when your stomach learns some new urban microbiome. 🦠
