Too tired to party …

Earlier in the week this week Quincy Quarry News pointed out that it was National Bean Counter Day on Wednesday and thus the day after federal and state income tax returns were due.

Not that usually mild-mannered and likely exhausted accountants were up for celebrating.

At least not for all that long or via all that many adult libations.

Especially not all that many libations.

Waddle, twaddle —- whatever

Next up, the Quarry finally managed to waddle through all of the twaddle to report on a week earlier vote by the City Council.

The vote?

To approve a protocol to automatically increase the pay of the mayor and city councillors after they enacted 89% and 45% raises, respectfully, a year ago.

Granted, the raises are not posed to happen for a number of year, but a grift is still grift.

How a grift?

Good luck following the pea …

The 89% and 45% raises were iced because the Massachusetts Ethics Commission is pondering what to do about them as they were approved in ways variously at odds with Massachusetts General Law as well as the City Charter, not to mention that the future raises protocol looks to repeat at least most of the same violations of state laws and the city charter.

But what the hey, in Quincy, applicable law is more what you call guidelines than actual rules actually abided.

Especially when it comes to shall we say pirating of tax money as well as local taxpayers’ money in particular.
