Quincy Center was hit by a fire in a well-known building located at the intersection of Parking Way and Hannon Parkway around 4 AM.this morning per an insomniac Quincy Quarry News Citizen Police Radio Monitor.
The Quarry’s police scanner monitor could also smell the acrid smell of burning plastic at the monitor’s residence roughly half a mile away from the fire scene.
At least four fire companies were called to the fire scene with the fire knocked down in short order.
The prompt extinguishing of the fire by Quincy Fire Department personnel was most propitious as a convalescence hospital is located directly across the street from the fire scene.
Additionally, the quick and professional putting out the fire was further a good thing as the scene of the fire posed potentially serious problems for the Wednesday morning commute as the burnt building is hard upon one of the busiest intersections in Quincy as well as abuts the MBTA’s Red Line.
No word as to the extent of the fire, smoke and/or water damage suffered at this point, however, much less any word as to impacts upon businesses operating in the building.
What is known is that fans are to be used to ventilate the building.
Surely a lot of fans.
Quincy firefighters put out a 4 AM fire in Quincy Center? Heroes, as always. But let’s take a moment to ask the real question: Was it the ghost of another failed Quincy redevelopment plan sparking its revenge? Between half-finished projects and endless construction, it’s a miracle the firefighters didn’t trip over orange cones or a rogue ‘Coming Soon’ sign. Props to the QFD for navigating Quincy’s perpetual chaos to save the day—again!
