Quincy Police radio chatter has continued into a second day about a police call to Quincy Point last night in the general vicinity of the intersection of Washington Street and Southern Artery.
The incident appears to have occurred around 11 pm Saturday night just as the second shift of local police officers on duty was about to call it a wrap.
One Quincy police officer initially responded to the scene and quickly called for back-up as things were apparently heated and a total of seven police cruisers subsequently ended up on the scene along with at least three ambulances.
Seven cruisers is more than half of the thirteen cruisers typically on the mean streets of Quincy with additional officers working desks at police headquarters able to roll in the event of a major incident.
Additionally, after police officers addressed the problem, officers were tasked to secure and monitor the scene, actions indicative of a serious incident.
The radio chatter tied to last night’s indictment continued today with it heard that Quincy police apparently traveled to South Shore Hospital and where an injured male tied to the incident sounds to be both held and undergoing medical treatment.
All in all, the incident was accorded with considerable radio chatter even if it is still unclear as to exactly what all happened.
Further, at this point it would appear that at least two females were also in the mix, at least one of them may have been stabbed as well as one may be pregnant.
Needless to say, Quincy Quarry News’s ever-growing legions of loyal readers can count on the Quarry to continue to monitor the situation and report updates as might be appropriate.
I live in a Senior bldg. In Quincy Point. I APPRECIATE YOU FOR ALL THIS NEWS HERE. QUINCY POINT IS GETTING SCARIER AND SCARIER. THANKFUL THAT “YOU” UPDATE US RESIDENTS AS TO WHAT IS GOING ON. QPD DOESN’T OR THE NEWS…. 7 POLICE CARS IS A MAJOR INCIDENT. I’M SURPRISED IT WASN’T ON CBS OR ABC, NBC…? Thank God for YOU GUYS!!! ALOT OF SENIORS HERE LISTEN TO YOUR APP.!
It is not just Quincy Point. Perhaps our cops are should be doing less funeral processions. Sometimes I see 8 motorcycles. Who pays for 8 police officers to stand in front of a funeral parlor? Would maybe 2 suffice? Are they volunteering their time (I joke)? Who decides who gets 8 police officers for a wake and funeral service and who doesn’t. I sometimes drive by Keohane’s & there are 8 cops and a Sheriff out there. It doesn’t take 10 cops to assist people crossing the street for a wake. I saw one procession a few weeks ago and cops on the motorcycles were driving on the wrong side of the road next to the funeral procession racing like there was a bank robbery. No corpse is in a hurry to get to Blue Hills Cemetery. A funeral procession should be slow and solemn and not sirens blaring like Scotland’s burning. Let’s deploy valuable resources to areas of the city that need them. At 120-300 thousand per year for a cop Quincy can’t afford to be in the funeral business. Maybe the Chief will want a police hearse next.
Charlie,
It’s worse than you realize.
Quick and dirty, Quincy police officers assigned funeral details are given a “day due” — basically a paid day off — instead of paid directly. Such so hides the cost of providing funeral details as a freebie provided by City Hall but ultimately funded by local taxpayers.
Problems with this policy include that only a small group of Quincy cops are motorcycle-rated. Further problems include the ability to creatively work things to variously as well as seriously boost one’s pay.
Additionally, it would appear that QPD motorcycles’ mileage is mostly rolled on funeral details.
No argument, funeral details can provide traffic safety; at the same time many other communities charge for them as well also often require them as might be viewed as appropriate to require them. Also, some police entities allow officers to cover a funeral detail gratis.
Quincy, on the other hand, is said to have provided a funeral detail in Boston for deceased Boston resident whose son apparently had some juice.
Ah, the Quincy Quarry News Police Scanner Snippets, my go-to source for all the sensationalized, half-baked headlines I never knew I needed. “Dangerous Assault Incident in Quincy Point?” Gee, thanks for the detailed, in-depth reporting. I feel so well-informed. Maybe next time they could just live-stream the scanner and save us all the effort of reading these cliffhanger teasers. Tune in next week when we find out if the cat stuck in a tree on Elm Street was rescued. Riveting stuff, folks.
Kelly,
Are you not familiar with the concept of filler stories when things are slow?
