Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch’s impending stupendously fat 89% pay increase lite up a Quincy Quarry News reader to submit the first ever letter to the Quarry’s editor.
Unlike many other news media, Quincy Quarry has since its launch provided one of the most unrestricted readers’ comments policy within the news media cyberspace.
Conversely, at this point many other news media have discontinued online reader comments as well as that the South Shore Broadsheet all but eliminated publishing letters to its editor.
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my outrage and disappointment at Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s recent actions. His decision to press for an 89% salary increase is a slap in the face to the hardworking residents of Quincy.
While many of us struggle to make ends meet, Koch is seeking to reward himself with a lavish raise that will make him one of the highest-paid mayors in the country.
This egregious decision is just the latest example of Mayor Koch’s out-of-touch leadership style. His long ongoing attempts to seize control of historic land bequeathed by President John Adams and his history of excessive campaign spending funded primarily by outside interests are further evidence of his disregard for the people he is supposed to serve.
Mayor Koch’s actions demonstrate a clear prioritization of personal gain and private agendas over the needs of our community. It’s time for him to be held accountable. I thus urge the people of Quincy to demand better from their leaders and to stand together against this blatant abuse of power.

While not a Quincy resident, he has decades long ties to Quincy, ranging from how both his wife and his brother are graduates of Quincy College to how he regularly shops at primarily ethnic markets in Quincy to a long ongoing keen interest in Quincy’s unique history as the City of Presidents and all else that comes with Quincy’s long history.
Oh, just what Quincy needs another politician getting a hefty raise while the rest of us can barely keep up with rent hikes and grocery bills. Bravo, Mayor Koch, for proving once again that public service is really just a cushy job with perks. Maybe next time, instead of lining your pockets, you could consider lining some potholes.
