The final approval vote to provide Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch with his requested 89% raise per W-2 form reporting purposes and pension benefit calculations is on for next Monday’s expected to be final City Council meeting before its summer recess.
The council will also surely but coincidentally will be considering Mayor Koch’s proposal to provide city councillors with an 58% raise, with their respective pay pops popping also along with champagne corks to celebrate the start of a New Year on January 1, 2025 nanoseconds after the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve.
The raises are also being jammed through without any input by local voters in spite of Local Ordinance 17A given a most curious read of Chapter 39, section 6A of Massachusetts General Laws by Mayor Koch’s always accommodating to his wishes consigliere.
So what, however, for the fact that that the consigliere often ends up losing in court as well as all but invariably ending up on the losing end when it comes to appellate cases.
In particular tn this instance, the consigliere did not even bother to address the clear legislative conflicts with the City Council even if such had been promised to those critical of the most curious handing of things.
The Council also moved the raises for both the mayor and city council members forward to this point without providing a Public Hearing for locals to weigh in with their thoughts about a stupendous if not also stupefying raises.
For example, a raise that will make Mayor Koch not also far the highest paid mayor in Massachusetts but also one of the best paid mayor in the country as the mayor of the but 327th largest city in the United States.
Further outrageous, the Chair of the Financial Committee and acting chair of last week’s preliminary vote on the mayor’s pay raise rather snippily reacted to comments from understandably disgruntled locals in the gallery. .
What does the Quincy City Council say when they ask about a 79% Raise for the Mayor? ‘No talking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’

The Finance Committee Chair also chaired the regular council meeting as the President of the City Council, who is also the Ward 3 ward councillor, was MIA.
Not the Ward 3 City Councillor missing a council meeting is anything out of the ordinary.
To those in the know anyway.
In any event on the day of last week’s important council meeting at least the Council President was busy posting updates on how hard-working he is on behalf of his constituents on his social media.
Providing content for his bid for the GOP nomination to challenge incumbent Massachusetts US Senator Elizabeth Warren this coming November elections anyway.

After all, voting for over the top porky raises is off brand for anyone running as a Republican candidate even if not quite up what would be the case if running on a platform that does not at this point appear to fully endorse without question Donald Trump’s third run for the presidency of the United States.
Public input? Procedure? Ordinance? Horse manure.
The rubber stampers are primed and ready.
Not only are the rubber stampers ready to ladle out pork next week, Mayor Koch has already provided them with gold-plated commemorative new stamp pads.
An 89% raise for Mayor Thomas Koch? Absolutely brilliant! Clearly, running Quincy into the ground requires way more compensation. While the rest of us scrounge for gas money and hope our paychecks stretch, it’s comforting to know our tax dollars are hard at work padding the mayor’s wallet. Next time, maybe they can throw in a golden throne and a scepter too.
