While MADD is likely not a fan, one of the few positive legislative reforms by Beacon Hill given the COVID pandemic was to allow restaurants to include adult libations with their home deliveries of meals.
Unfortunately, in what was not an April Fools Day prank the fools on Beacon Hill allowed this popular legislative reform to expire on Monday.
While statements have been promulgated that efforts to reauthorize the delivery of adult libations with meal orders are ongoing, the Quarry is not confident that Beacon Hill can both overcome its torpid nature AND not knuckle under to special interest lobbying even if such deliveries are surely popular with the denizens of Beacon Hill so as to help keep their late night toga parties and other sorts of partying going.
Plus, while college students have been known to engage in underage home delivery purchases of adult libations with their food orders, home delivery poses an arguable public safety aspect: people so imbibing are already home and where most of them will likely stay.
No Bud for you either.
Well, isn’t that just the cherry on top of Beacon Hill’s pandemic response sundae? Because clearly, what we all needed during a global health crisis was easier access to booze with our takeout. I mean, forget about addressing systemic issues or improving healthcare infrastructure, let’s make sure we can have our cocktails delivered alongside our burgers, because that’s what progress looks like, right? MADD might not be thrilled, but hey, at least we can drown our sorrows in a margarita while pretending everything’s just peachy. Cheers to prioritizing the important stuff, folks!
