Elections often make for strange media bedfellows.
Following Quincy Quarry News’ taking the lede in publishing both Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch’s flaws-laden brief in support of his reelection bid and challenger at large City Councillor Anne Mahoney’s plan, the South Short broadsheet has yet again followed the Quarry’s lead with its own coverage.
One could also readily argue that the Broadsheet is cribbing on Quincy Quarry’s hard hitting to the stones journalist style.
For example the broadsheet arguably cited snarkily Mayor Koch’s claim that “I still have a fire in the belly” … to take on another term in office.
To such, one can just as easily instead suspect a case of heartburn.
Similarly, the broadsheet has at least recently been less than kind in its choice of head shots of the mayor used in its coverage.
Simply put, when it comes to politicians, pictures of them used by the news media can tell a ten thousand words.
For example, how Mayor Koch has increasingly been showing clear signs of perhaps relying on steroids or some other appearance-altering drug(s).
.
Conversely, the broadsheet penned a clear and clean recap of Mrs. Mahoney’s platform.
“Anne’s Plan” is a straightforward and comprehensive one featuring financial prudence, inclusion of as many locals into civic affairs as is practicable, planning that works for both current and future Quincy residents, and transparency — especially with matters financial.
After all, city spending is funded with taxpayers’ money.
Of particular importance, her plan is based on her reaching out to as many locals as possible for their input while she was out and about door-knocking for support in every Quincy neighborhood.
Anne’s plan is thus one based on the wishes and wants of local residents as opposed to the all often top down plans of Mayor Koch, plans which are often all but formally dictated to him by those showering largess on his campaign fund and most especially in some instances probably dropping even larger chunks of change on Mayor Koch’s off the books from the public eyes favored foundations and such.
Conversely, the broadsheet has long featured favorable photos of candidate Mahoney.
In short, if one knows how to read between nuanced lines and takes note of the images used, one can only come to realize that Quincy Quarry News was yet again ahead of the curve.
Way ahead.
Koch has more signs. Frikin everywhere
The developers who own his ample tukas want to see ROI for their campaign fund “donations” — especially certain of them who have dropped unrestricted amounts to Tommy’s books closed to the public favorite local private funds such as the Quincy Parks Conservancy.
“A fire in the belly . . . ”
More likely his pants are on fire but he can’t see them.
Not sure how good this is. Wish there was a better candidate to challenge him. Koch will win because of that.
