Braintree Fire Chief James O’Brien was recently taken to task by Quincy Quarry News’ media brethren at NBCBoston Channel 10 for seeing his sons greased into jobs as Braintree firefighers.
First up, NBCBoston found that Chief O’Brien’s eldest son James, one of four firefighters hired by Braintree in 2019, was hired even though he was ranked 58th out of 87 on the hiring list.
More recently, Chief O’Brien’s younger son Tyler was expelled from Boston’s Fire Academy where he had been training to become qualified to become a Braintree firefighter. While official particulars for his dismissal are not known, it would appear that his expulsion was likely for cause.
Not to be deterred, Chief O’Brien then saw Tyler greased into another fire academy for training and then hired by Braintree.
Additionally, Chief O’Brien’s now son-in-law is also a Braintree firefighter.
At the same time, however, Quincy Quarry can only properly note that the chief’s now son-in-law was ranked third in the most recent round of Braintree firefighter hires made in 2022.
In other words, for a change it would appear in Braintree that only arguably unqualified sons are the ones hired rather than also an idiot son-in-law, unlike Quincy where both sorts of such hirings as well as other sorts of suspect practices are arguably common practice when it comes to the City of Quincy’s family and friends-friendly hiring practices.
In turn, such suspect hiring by the City of Quincy results in such disconcerting outcomes such as how one of Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s nephews, who is also the son of recently retired and thus former Quincy Police Chief Paul “The Beaver“ Keenan, was hired as a police officer.
Adding to that scandal is that Kid Keenan is currently suspended from duty.
The reason for his extended and likely paid vacay?
He is said to be undergoing two parallels reviews of his arguably taking sexual advantage, if not also arguably predatorially so, of a woman who has long been under custodial care given cognitive shortcomings.
Then again, such events are arguably only to be expected what with the Koch Maladministration striving to maintain the all but steady over 90% white City of Quincy work force in spite of the fact that Quincy is on the verge of having a minority majority population and so passing on the opportunity of having a much larger candidate pool and so be able to source the best possible city employees.
Fun stuff. Love the commitment but what are we doing here? Punctuation matters my friend.
Fun or tight editing is always a tough trade off in the Quincy Quarry newsroom. Reasons include that the Quarry’s rewrite editor day drinks. Seriously, as the Quincy tries to see the news of the day hit the fan ASAP, it also does what it can to circle back around to tightening up its prose. Think continuous Improvement — of a sort anyway.
Its all about who you know gee-sh.
What a terribly written article; you want to talk about being unqualified for a job, take a good look in the mirror with this writing. Carl Woodward- more like clown woodward. Yikes!
Shannon,
Quincy Quarry News stands by this story.
For but one reason why, a mere handful of months after it was published last September, now-former Quincy Police Detective Andrew “Randy Andy” Keenan — the son of retired Quincy Police Chief Paul “The Beav” as well as a nephew of Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch — was found to be unfit to serve as a police officer per an outside review and he then resigned rather face dismissal for cause.
