Media paywalls driving you to distraction, especially those for news media you do not all that often read and/or care to support by subscribing?
If so, Quincy Quarry Citizen News Media monitor has a hack for you!
Granted while this hack is limited to one news media company, it does appear to usually work for at least featured coverage other than occasional “For Subscribers (Only, ed.)” articles posted in the larger so-called local newspapers owned by this company and which includes a published six days a week broadsheet with Quincy roots.
The hack?
If you find yourself paywalled out from reading an online story published online by one of the many local newspapers owned by this so news media company such as the South Shore broadsheet, just copy the article’s title and then paste it after “Yahoo” in your browser as Yahoo appears to have a free view articles posting agreement with this media company.
Per a random sample, it would appear that this simple hack all but invariably works to workaround the paywall for more consequential articles published by the South Shore broadsheet except for its “For Subscribers (Only, ed.)” features.
While some might find this apparent free use arrangement bad news for the revenue of the news media company a dumb arrangement, such a dumb decision by its senior suits comes as no great surprise to Quarry personnel well-familiar with the company’s penchant for dumb decisions by its senior suits.
Also, the above hack is way easier than trying to copy article text in the Boston tabloid to then paste before its software blocks off viewing of the article and then poses a subscription advertisement.
