Over two weeks after one of the three pedestrian traffic signals erected so as to endeavor to control traffic on Burgin Parkway so that (the few, ed.) pedestrians using the Generals’ Bridge might be able to endeavor to cross the parkway safely was whacked by a likely at least a speeding motorist on St. Patrick’s Day evening, the whacked signal has yet to be replaced.
The missing traffic signal is especially troubling as the crosswalk is still open for use by pedestrians even though one of the three pedestrian crossing traffic signals is MIA.
Such is troubling as it is only reasonable to assume that pedestrian safety best practices all but assuredly call for suspending use of the this crosswalk until the whacked traffic signal is replaced if for no other reason than the City of Quincy could end up finding itself held liable if a careless driver whacked a pedestrian endeavoring to crossing Burgin Parkway given incomplete traffic control signalization.
Plus, it is not like all that many people would so be but minimally inconvenienced if they had to detour to either the nearby Paul Harold Bridge, Quincy Center’s original bridge to nowhere, or the parkway’s intersection with Granite Street so as to cross Burgin Parkway.
Then again, when it comes to the Koch Maladministration failing to mitigate local taxpayers’ exposure to having to pay the piper whenever something goes wrong in Quincy, the Koch Machine is without a peer.
