– News about Quincy Massachusetts from Quincy Quarry News
Inside of a nondescript storefront on Southern Artery for the past twenty-three years one could enjoy some of finest food in Quincy, if not also at least the entire South Shore region, at the Punjab Cafe.
Seriously fine food cooked in an immaculate kitchen and beautifully presented via impeccable service as well as feathering cloth napkins offered in a city better known for restaurants featuring large portions of comfort food even if those in the know know that Quincy also has one of widest range of all manner of noteworthy Asian restaurants in Eastern Massachusetts.
Now, however, the Punjab Cafe’s driven as well as only chef and longtime owner Balwant Singh is calling it a day and retiring.
The incoming new owners of The Punjab Cafe aim to uphold Singh’s excellence and his loyal patrons can only hope that they will.
Even so, it will not be the same. Maybe just as good, but still not same.

Just got back home with my takeout order!
I recall how thrilled I was when Punjab opened 23 years ago — Quincy finally had an Indian restaurant! So, I’ve been a frequent customer over the years and have found the food to be wonderful. Additionally, it’s been a pleasure to know the owner, Balwant Singh, and I wish him well going forward. He feels strongly that the new owner will continue providing authentic Indian food to the high standard that has been a trademark of Punjab Café and I wish him/them well.
Went there last night. Food is delicious. Really gonna miss this chef, but hope he teaches the new owners. Place was packed, must have bee 10 cars parked on the southern artery, all illegally and blocking the road. Testament to how good the place is.
