With start of February comes the annual media coverage of Punxsutanwaney Phil’s weighing in on how much longer winter will continue.
This year, the coverage is going up a notch as Phil is being feted with his naming to the Meteorological Hall of Fame.
While Phil’s predicative accuracy has long been called into question, one news media outlet reviewed the data and found that he has been right 74% of the time over a 75 year span.
Even so, haters gotta hate.
For example, New Yorkers are quick to point out that Staten Island Chuck has been right 80% of the time since he first began calling how much winter winter remains in 1981.
How tough is Chuck?
In 2009 he bit then New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Also, Quarry Quarry can only properly suggests that perhaps there may be some sexism going on with Phil’s admission to the Meteorological Hall of Fame as the Massachusetts Audubon Society’s Ms. G’s accuracy tops Phil.
In any event, as regards Ms. G’s slighting, Quincy Quarry News can only properly note from direct experience that the Massachusetts Audubon Society’s hosts a fun and family-friendly event featuring Ms. G, Massachusetts’ official Groundhog, on Groundhog Day at its Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary in Lincoln MA this coming Thursday.
