“We have an ugly coyote situation in Houghs Neck”

In yet another Only in Quincy sort of story comes yet another one care of Quincy Quarry News’ Citizen Police Scanner Monitor.

Earlier this week during the dinner time/early Prime Time window, the Quarry police scanner monitor picked up a most amusing radio interchange among various City of Quincy Department of Public Works, Fire Department, and Police Department personnel.

The reason for the interchange: a dead coyote.

Apparently, the coyote was struck and so killed by a passing motor vehicle near the Atherton Hough Elementary School in Houghs Neck as opposed to yet another all too common coyote ugly incident in the parking lot at the Hofbrau in nearby Adams Shore.

Normally, given an animal’s death, City of Quincy Animal Control is supposed to handle the disposal of such roadkill; this time; however, apparently no one at Animal Control could be reached even though someone at Animal Control is supposed to be on call if the need arises during at least some of the swing shift.

With Animal Control MIA, a request was then made to the Fire Department asking it to send along a firetruck to hose down an apparently messy accident scene as well as that the responding  crew of firefighters bring along a bag for the dead coyote.

A firetruck showed up and hosed down the scene; however, the responding crew did not bring along a bag.

The hosers blamed police dispatch for not advising them to bring along a bag.

So what, apparently, for the fact that the Fire Department would be well-advised to monitor police radio chatter.

In any event, the police officer on the scene then chided police dispatch over dispatch’s purported failure to ask that the fire department crew bring along a body bag.

Police dispatch then reached out to the Department of Public Works (“DPW”) to help out with a bag or a trash barrel.

DPW, however, would hear nothing of it as regards how Animal Control was MIA as well as refused to provide any assistance.

Needless to say, the radio chatter tied to the dead coyote ranged from “colorful’ to heated and which premium subscribers to Broadcastify can stream for review if one is so inclined to review the conversations.

The police officer on the scene subsequently announced that he had tried to toss the carcass into a dumpster at the elementary school, only to blow the throw, and so left the coyote carrion next to the dumpster.

Accordingly, the officer requested that dispatch notify the school so that school personnel knew to be prepared to shield students from seeing the dead coyote when they arrived at school the following morning.
