Quincy Zoning Board of Appeal rejects outsized building variance ask, Hell then freezes
– News about Quincy Massachusetts from Quincy Quarry News with commentary added
The Quincy Zoning Board of Appeals rejected an outsized building size variance at its regularly scheduled meeting last night after the variance ask was first facilitated by a supine Quincy Planning Board earlier this month at a much less then duly noticed rescheduled meeting.
Reasons for the Zoning Board’s surprising to many rejection of an ask by a development group that includes Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s consigliere follow.
The variance ask made by a Koch Machine insider and his partners was to build out a property with new construction roughly three times larger than what is allowed per local building codes.
There are all manner of traffic and traffic safety concerns with what is a variously problematic, if not also outright dangerous site.
Probably most important of all, however, the hearing was packed with locals.
As near as the Quincy Quarry staffer covering this hearing could tell, the nearby residents of the site were all vehemently against the proposal as well as offered up many valid reasons why the ask should be rejected per applicable law.
That and it was clear the they were ready to go to the expense of dragging the City of Quincy and the Zoning Board of Appeal into Land Court if need be to seek the court’s vacating of the approval of this koched-up grift if the zoning board were to approve the ask.
Needless to say, if such had come to pass the City of Quincy’s City Attorney would have to recuse himself given a clear conflict of interest as well as that Mayor Koch would then have to go the added expense of hiring outside council so as to feign the appearance of independence.
Further, one can only reasonably opine that the board members were concerned that they might not make it to their cars after the meeting if they approved this koched-up grift.
At the same time, Quincy Quarry cannot speak to whether or not the current ward heeler that represents this part of Quincy made it to his car after talking up the project and so surely endeavoring to curry favor with at least certain members of La Kocha Nostra so as to perhaps make enough bones to be appointed to a well-paying as well as an eye-popping pension boosting senior position with the Koch Machine.
At a minimum, given previously all but assuredly irreparably losing support within Houghs Neck, this latest displaying of rolling over for City Hall Big Dogs, the current Ward One ward heeler better hope that a Koch Machine job opens up soon as he could well as well as deservedly go down in flames come the 2023 local elections should a merely but perhaps plausible challenger opposes him.

What is it about Ward 1 councilors — we haven’t had a good one since Doug Gutro or Leo Kelly. People thought McCarthy would be a vast improvement over LaForest, but he’s become a rubber stamper for the Koch regime, monied interests, and the insiders network. Time for a new ward councilor.
He’ll find a cushy place to hide in some other city job. Gotta pump up that pension!
Our scumbag city solicitor conspired with his privileged son and city hall connections to make a quick, quiet buck – with the mayor’s blessing – at the expense of Necker commuters.
Quincy City Hall is nothing but a den of incompetent thieves!
