It was surely only but a matter of time before rail repair equipment went off the tracks; however, two such incidents during the first two weekdays of the month-long Orange Line rail service makeover shutdown surprised even the hard-bitten and even harder drinking cynics in the Quincy Quarry News newsroom.

On the other hand, there was elation as newsroom bets laid down all took the under as to when things would hit the skids.

In any event, on Monday “… a piece of stationary equipment slipped off the rails just north of Wellington Station around 7:20 p.m.”  No explanation, however, that something stationary was on the tracks, much less fall off of them.

Then around 8;30 AM on Monday morning “… a piece of equipment used for rail and tie replacement work derailed near the Ruggles crossover in the area of Mass Ave station” per an MBTA flak catcher.

No injuries were reported nor was any word provided as to how much work time was lost care of these under investigation incidents.
