Government properties among those fined for violating Boston’s snow removal ordinance following a blizzard,
In a move that many “snowblocked” Quincy residents would surely love to see implemented locally, the Boston broadsheet has reported that Boston building inspectors have cited all manner of government properties in Boston for not clearing their sidewalks in a timely manner after last month’s Bombogenesis Blizzard of 2022.
Total fines issued run well into at least five figures with one combined city and state use property fined $6,800
While actually collecting on the fines remains to be seen, citing these governmental snow scofflaws is definitely a good start towards addressing a long ongoing public safety problem resulting from public officials failing to take care of business.
Boston complains about their budget…. now we know why
The city owns the sidewalks not the abutters. Why should a resident have to shovel a sidewalk they do not own? Who is liable if someone falls after a resident shovels? The city can say they didn’t improperly remove the snow. They would point to the resident.
